Does The Departing Shot provide scattering services?
Our primary service is packaging cremated remains into field-ready and commemorative shells. We can, however, make arrangements to scatter remains when needed. Please contact us if you have a special need. Click here to write to us now or call 816-795-5175 or 888-715-5175.

Will firing your shells damage my shotgun barrel in any way?
No guns were ever harmed in the testing of our products. Our technicians use their own shotguns to test our shells. In extensive testing, their guns have never experienced any damage.

Should I clean my gun in any special way after scattering my dogs remains?
No special cleaning is required. Just clean your gun afterwards as the manufacturer recommends.

How can I locate a veterinarian in my area?
In the USA, veterinarians typically handle cremation arrangements. Often, your veterinarian will handle the arrangements for you at no additional charge. If you do not have a veterinarian, click here to find a list of animal hospitals in your area.

Are there specific cremation processes that need to be performed to achieve the correct specifications for your shells?
Yes, there are. We will work directly with your veterinarian or crematorium. You do not have to worry about the details.

Does The Departing Shot have a “pre-need” or prepaid service?

May I request certain specifications for the shotgun shells I order other than your standard “load?”

Can cremated remains be packaged in a non-primed or decorative shell?
Yes, we offer commemorative shells stored in a handsome high quality hardwood display box as well as an urn shaped like a shotgun shell. Click here to see these options.

Do I need to ship all the cremated remains to your facility?
No. Our shells only contain a few ounces; so, even if you order 21 shells, the memorial will only require a small portion of the ashes. To protect the remainder of your dog's ashes from the rare shipping problem, we do not accept shipment of the full remains.

Can I scatter my dog's ashes anywhere?
Our customers usually find they can scatter their dog's ashes across the fields they've long hunted. You may want to check with local officials and landowners, however, to make sure that you comply with rules and regulations in your area.

What recourse do I have if my shipment is lost?
Our shipping partners must meet strict criteria. Still, we recognize that even the best shippers sometimes make mistakes. To ensure that your dog's ashes are not lost, we only ask for and will only accept a small percentage of the ashes from your veterinarian or crematorium. In the event a shipment is lost, we will either reimburse you for the cost of the order plus any shipping/handling costs or replace the order with additional remains at no additional cost to you.
